Areas of Law That Corsones and Fitzsimons, PLLC Does NOT Practice In

There are a few areas of law that we do not practice in. We believe that lawyers should specialize in different areas of the law to best meet clients’ needs.

We do however provide a referral for each type of legal case that can occur. The areas of law that we currently do NOT practice are:

Criminal Defense

A criminal charge can be a life-altering experience. If you are charged, you need to make sure your constitutional and statutory rights are protected and you need an experienced attorney to aggressively advocate for you. This attorney needs to be well-versed in not only criminal law, but also the Vermont criminal court system. Corsones and Fitzsimons, PLLC does not practice in the criminal divisions of either state or federal court. Corsones and Fitzsimons, PLLC does not provide criminal defense representation, but we recommend you contact Devin McLaughlin, who is a partner at Langrock Sperry & Wool. While we are not associated with that law firm, Mr. McLaughlin is based out of Middlebury, Vermont. His offices are located in Addison County, but he is also able to serve clients in adjacent Vermont counties like Rutland County, Chittenden County, and Bennington County. Mr. McLaughlin’s contact number is 802.388.6356 and additional information can be found by clicking here.

Trademark, Patent and Copyright

Intellectual property is defined as a creative work that can be anything from an invention to a business’ brand. A business can succeed or fail based on the protections in place for its creative capital. With ever-expanding technological advances and the use of the internet, it is more important than ever, to ensure your intellectual property is protected. The areas of trademark, patent and copyright law require experienced, specialized professionals. Corsones and Fitzsimons, PLLC does not practice intellectual property law. We recommend that you contact the Vermont Bar Association for referral for a trademark, patent or copyright case. The Vermont Bar Association can be contacted on (802) 223-1400. Their website is located at https://www.vtbar.org/LRS/. The VBA are perfectly positioned to assist clients in finding a good trademark attorney.

Driving Under The Influence DUI

Vermont has a high rate of drivers (per capita) that are stopped by police for suspicion of driving under the influence. The most common charge is for alcohol consumption and then driving a vehicle, but more and more cases are coming before the courts for driving impaired after marijuana use or for the use of other schedule 1 illegal drugs like heroin or cocaine. Because Vermont is a rural state, people need cars to be able to travel for work or school and the loss of a driver's license can have negative collateral consequences for not just the driver, but for their whole family as well. As Vermont has few public transportation solutions and ride-sharing is infrequent and often unavailable, the impact to a client and their families may be immense. For a good defense, clients need specialized legal representation, because losing a Vermont driving license, and possibly serving jail time, can have a huge impact on the client’s life for many years to come.

Corsones and Fitzsimons, PLLC doesn’t provide DUI representation, but we recommend you contact Devin McLaughlin, who is a partner at Langrock Sperry & Wool. While we are not associated with that law firm, Mr. McLaughlin is based out of Middlebury, Vermont. Traffic Tickets and Speeding Tickets In Vermont

There are many Vermont traffic court cases for all kinds of moving violations. Citations can include charges for speeding, defective equipment, failure to yield, and negligent operation among other traffic offenses.  Drivers can of course be ticketed for using handheld cell phones. Defendants can choose to just pay the fine or can defend the ticket in person at the Vermont Judicial Bureau.

Clients must weigh the options on how to decide on the best strategy to defend a traffic ticket taking into account the penalty or fine, the risk of losing a driving license and the long term insurance premium increases. Defendants in more serious traffic court cases can also use an attorney to defend them in court if the stakes are high. Corsones and Fitzsimons, PLLC does not practice defense for traffic and speeding tickets. We recommend that you contact the Vermont Bar Association for referral for a speeding ticket or traffic case. The Vermont Bar Association can be contacted on (802) 223-1400. Their website is located at https://www.vtbar.org/LRS/. The VBA are perfectly positioned to assist clients in finding a good traffic ticket attorney in the Rutland County area.
